Trends in Plastic Surgery
- 17 February 2016
In today’s world, following a trend, has almost become un-trendy. Lately, people and restaurants are looking for ways to stand out and be different. The hipster movement, for example, is in full swing and grabbing the attention of many people. Finding clothing that is unique and original is what’s “cool”.
But, there are certain things for which most people still seek approval from society before they jump in and take part.
Regardless of the latest trends, plastic surgery continues to improve overall body contour, facial features, and repair deformities. Rather than follow a particular trend, it always aims to create a more symmetrical and aesthetically pleasing body shape. There are trends however, in what is popular in a particular period of time. Here is a list of some of the more popular plastic surgeries in the recent years and the reasons for their popularity.
Breast augmentation still remains one of the most desired and requested surgeries. Many people want this procedure as a means of increasing the size of their breasts. In some cases, a breast augmentation is required in order to balance a partial mastectomy, re-contour after a total mastectomy, or to even out an assymetry.
Breast augmentations are also being incorporated into other procedure such as the Mommy Makeover or performed in combination with a breast lift. With society pushing us to try to preserve our youthful appearance, women are looking for ways to keep their breasts high and full. Celebrities like Pamela Anderson and Christina Aguilera show off their breast implants and constant images that appear in the media give us more incentive to do get our own.
Rhinoplasties, or nose jobs, are another frequently performed surgery. Rhinoplasties are done for both cosmetic and functional purposes. Whether it's an increase in bar fights and sports injuries leading to broken noses or the desire to have a “perfect” face due to the social media craze for selfies in the past couple years, this surgery is increasingly popular.
Blepharoplasty is a surgical procedure that focuses on rejuvenating the eyelids. Today, a youthful and energetic appearance projects happiness and success to others. Sagging eyelids are the number one cause of a tired, worn out, haggered appearance. A little tightening around the eye structures can take years off one's appearance.
Liposuction is another procedure that we have seen a steady increase in since 2010. Liposuction is commonly sought out for contouring because of its less invasive qualities. While liposuction does require some recovery time, it does have far less scarring than a lot of other surgeries.
Many procedures are offered in combination with liposuction. Anything from breast lifts, tummy tucks, thigh lifts, buttocks augmentations and even lip injections may incorporate liposuction.
Buttocks augmentations or a Brazilian Butt Lift is one plastic surgery procedure that has increased in popularity over the last decade. Much of this craze can be credited to celebrities as well as social media. We are seeing less of the “Barbie doll” figure and more fuller, rounder body shapes in the spotlight. People like Kim Kardashian and Beyoncé were among the first to give their stamp of approval and to popularize a rounded buttocks. Some social media folks have even found fame as a result of their "apple bottom!" As a result, buttock augmentations continue to grow in popularity and this trend show no signs of slowing down.
