Aging is a completely normal and natural process that most of us try to fight. Although we can’t stop time, we can sometimes minimize the signs of aging through surgical and non-surgical anti-aging techniques.

There are so many options out there. There are all kinds of creams

and oils that promise results, but more often than not, the results are hardly noticeable or non-existent. There are laser treatments and facial peels. There is microdermabrasion and other exfoliating techniques. And, then there is plastic surgery.

My goal here is not to put down the other techniques that people use. In fact, some people have found a lot of satisfaction using some of these anti-aging methods. However, it is my belief that if you want to have lasting results, medical interventions are your best bet.

Medical procedures promise results that can last anywhere from 3 months to a year for the non-surgical procedures, and for years to come for some surgical procedures.

To make it easier for you, we have come up with a short checklist of questions that you should ask your surgeon before a Botox.

What do we mean by cosmetic medical procedures?

There are so many different options when it comes to anti-aging procedures in plastic surgery. Virtually all procedures have the potential to provide a more youthful looking face or body. But, there are some procedures that are geared towards specifically reversing the signs of aging like loose, saggy skin with  wrinkles and creases.

In a recent conversation with a leading plastic surgeon, I specifically asked him what he thought the anti-aging procedure that has the most impact on his patients is. It is a tough question to answer because everyone comes to us with different concerns and with different expectations. While some people are focused on their facial aging, others may be more geared towards fixing the sagging skin in their tummy area. So it is hard to pick just one single procedure to produce an overall more youthful appearance. However, after much consideration and some interim discussion, he was able to choose one procedure.

“Botox,” he replied “is a quick and simple, nonsurgical procedure that I believe gives the best results for the least amount of downtime and cost. The cost-benefit is huge.”

The pros of Botox greatly outweigh the cons. Botox is can be done in a very short amount of time. Depending on how much your individual needs require and what your target areas are, the procedure could take you less than twenty minutes to complete. The recovery is fast too. There is essentially no downtime and you can get right back into your normal routine. Bruising and swelling may occur, but it fades very quickly, and can easily be camouflaged with a little makeup.

The results of Botox can last anywhere from 3 to 6 months before patients should consider a touch-up treatment. Although surgical procedures like facelifts can give you longer lasting results, my colleague points out:

“Those procedures are permanent and invasive. Botox can give you the results you want to quickly ‘freshen’ up your look.”

Botox can give anyone a rejuvenated appearance, but there may be other plastic surgery procedures available to meet your anti-aging needs. Your surgeon will know what procedures are best to leave you feeling younger!
