Getting a facelift could do wonders for your appearance, but let us face it: not everyone is willing to go under the knife just to take advantage of the benefits of a facelift.

A lot of people are still apprehensive about the idea of surgery and would rather look for more conservative enhancements.

If you are one of these people whose skin crawls at the thought of a scalpel near your face, then you might want to consider the following non-surgical alternatives to a facelift. You will be surprised that there are actually a lot of options to choose from.

Laser facelift

Facelift miami 8The laser facelift-also known as Lazerlift-is a treatment that involves the use of a powerful precision laser to effectively heat the dermis and superficial muscular aponeurotic system or SMAS. It can also stimulate collagen production. This results in better tissue coagulation, structural lifting, and skin tightening without the pain, risks, and downtime associated with a surgical facelift.

The Lazerlift does not require general anesthesia, as the procedure can be accomplished in as little as 30 minutes. No extensive incisions are necessary since your surgeon will only create three micro-holes that are smaller than the tip of a ballpoint pen to carry out the procedure. These small holes do not require stitching as they are virtually invisible once healed. Recovery is a breeze as it requires minimal downtime and produces marginal discomfort.

To make it easier for you, we have come up with a short checklist of questions that you should ask your surgeon before a Facelift procedure.

You will pretty much get the same benefits of a surgical facelift when you undergo the laser facelift. These include a tighter appearance of the lower face and neck, reduction of fine lines and wrinkles, decreased sagging and jowls, and an improved jawline and neckline. In other words, it can leave you looking and feeling younger and more rejuvenated. However, it cannot eliminate excess skin or tighten the underlying facial structure.

Liquid facelift

The liquid facelift makes use of a variety of injectable dermal fillers-such as Juvederm, Sculptra, Radiesse, and Restylane-in order to lift and contour your facial features. Aside from that, these advanced dermal fillers can also reduce the wrinkles, lines, creases, and folds on your face, giving you a more rested and youthful look.

Each dermal filler has unique attributes that work in a certain way to rejuvenate specific areas in your face. For instance, Juvederm is best used for treating the nasolabial folds or smile line wrinkles by adding volume to the face. Sculptra is great for providing contour to flattened temple areas or the sunken areas below the cheek pads.

Botox and Dysport may be used in conjunction with these dermal fillers to provided added lift and help the dermal fillers last longer. A liquid facelift typically lasts from one to two years, depending on the products used and the facial area treated. But just like the laser facelift, the liquid facelift cannot remove loose skin or target the deeper underlying layer of the muscle.

Ultrasound facelift

Ultrasound imaging may be popular as a diagnostic procedure, but many people do not realize that this can actually be used to lift the skin and promote collagen production. Also known as Ultherapy, ultrasound facelift sends sound waves to the treatment area to lift and tighten the skin. It can even target the muscles underneath the treatment area, although the results are not as dramatic as a full surgical facelift.

The ultrasound facelift is even better than the laser facelift because the ultrasound skin tightening device reaches as much as five millimeters under the skin, penetrating into the second layer of muscles underneath the face. Laser treatments cannot reach that depth. This paves the way for the stimulation of collagen creation, which makes it a good treatment for people 20 years old and above when the body starts synthesizing less collagen.

Like all the other non-surgical facelift alternatives, the ultrasound facelift does not involve any cutting, stitching, and downtime. You can immediately go back to your normal activities without having to follow any special post-procedure instructions.

Pelleve

The Pelleve treatment is a wrinkle reduction system that makes use of radiofrequency waves to tighten the skin and cause the collagen fibers in the skin’s deeper layers to contract, hence stimulating the body’s natural collagen production. It is best for reducing wrinkles found in delicate areas like around the eyes and the lipstick lines on the top lip. It can also be used for getting rid of jowls and tightening the neck area. This results in a firmer facial skin. However, Pelleve cannot remove large amounts of sagging skin. Patients also need two or three Pelleve treatment sessions to achieve optimum results.

Because Pelleve is a minimally invasive procedure that does not require anesthesia or skin cooling, you will be able to describe to your doctor the depth of treatment and assist him in the actual procedure. Hence, you have more control over this treatment than any other non-surgical facelift alternative. It also has minimal side effects and recovery time, with the actual treatment only lasting from 45 minutes to an hour.

Microcurrent facelift

Also dubbed as the 5-minute facelift, the microcurrent facelift is the latest among these non-surgical facelift alternatives, quickly becoming a hit among a multitude of aestheticians and cosmetic surgeons. The procedure involves gentle electrical stimulation of muscles and tissue, thereby toning them and rejuvenating the appearance of your face. Aside from that, gentle electric current can also increase blood circulation, production of collagen and elastin, and cell regeneration.

The results of the microcurrent facelift are instant but only lasts for 48 hours, so it is best to undergo the procedure if you are attending special events. However, regular treatments can lead to long-term benefits, such as improved skin structure and elasticity, and even better facial contour.

If you are thinking of getting one of these non-surgical facelift alternatives, do not hesitate to talk to a board-certified surgeon regarding your concerns.
