There may be more women than men signing up for a tummy tuck, but that’s not to say that tummy tuck for men doesn’t exist. In fact, a fair number of males get abdominoplasty to enjoy a firmer physique, especially in their midsection.
Reasons for Getting a Tummy Tuck for Men
One of the main reasons why women get a tummy tuck is loose abdominal skin and lax muscles due to pregnancy. But since men don’t have to deal with pregnancy, they have other reasons for getting a tummy tuck.
You may have developed sagging abdominal skin due to massive weight loss. It might also be hard for you to tighten your abdominal skin through exercise, although men generally have less stretching and no muscle separation.
Men who get a tummy tuck generally want a firmer body that allows them to wear whatever clothes they like, or even to display their upper body comfortably. Getting rid of excess skin can also help them achieve a more active lifestyle.
Whereas women want a curvier figure, men want to achieve a firmer and flatter abdomen.
Male Tummy Tuck Procedure
There are three ways to perform a tummy tuck in men - full abdominoplasty, mini abdominoplasty, and extended abdominoplasty. The first two addresses problems in your front abdomen, while the last one is popular among men because it includes removing love handles.
The procedure can be performed under general anesthesia, but it’s typical for tummy tuck patients to be discharged on the same day.
Tummy Tuck Scar in Men
The length of your tummy tuck scar depends on how much skin is removed.
In women, the tummy tuck incision stretches from hip to hip at the level of the pubic hair in the lower abdomen.
But for men undergoing a full tummy tuck, the scar typically stretches across the stomach, about 6-7 cm from the penis.
Male Tummy Tuck Results
Men should expect to have a flatter, firmer, and toned midsection instead of a contoured body like what many women expect. You’ll be able to see the results instantly, although it might take six months for the swelling to subside fully and for the incisions to complete heal.
Combination with Other Procedures
For women, the most common procedures that go along with an abdominoplasty include breast augmentation, breast lift, and breast reduction. Thigh lifts and arm lifts can also be done. Plus, a tummy tuck is often included in mommy makeover and body contouring packages.
But for men, the only breast procedure commonly done with a tummy tuck is gynecomastia surgery, also known as male breast reduction. Men mostly focus on face procedures like brow lift, facelift, eyelid surgery, and rhinoplasty.
